Morgan Spurlock's legacy will live on through his powerful documentaries

Morgan Spurlock, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind the groundbreaking documentary "Super Size Me," has died at the age of 53 from cancer complications. Spurlock's death was confirmed by his wife, Alexandra Jamieson, on Twitter.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share that my husband, best friend, partner in life and father of our three children, Morgan Spurlock, passed away last night," Jamieson wrote.

Spurlock rose to fame in 2004 with "Super Size Me," a documentary in which he ate nothing but McDonald's food for 30 days. The film exposed the dangers of fast food consumption and sparked a national conversation about the need for healthier eating habits.

In addition to "Super Size Me," Spurlock directed and produced numerous other documentaries, including "30 Days" (2005), "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" (2011), and "Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!" (2017).

Spurlock's work earned him critical acclaim and numerous awards, including an Academy Award nomination for "Super Size Me." He was also a vocal advocate for public health and food reform.
